New Year's Day Paintout at Benbrook Lake, Fort Worth

New year's Day was cloudy and windy.  Seems that  I so often end up painting in such conditions that I have grown fond of them.  I love the colors that are close in value and muted with tones of purple and rusty red.  The wind kept the water interesting with white caps around the grasses that grew out into the water.
The trees become skeletons in the winter.  With the foliage gone the inner shapes become the dominating element of the landscape.
Whether they are water soaked and dried to whitish grey they become the central theme of most  a painting.  The leaves had just recently dropped from the trees onto the ground and they still had their fall color for interest.  Just the kind of situation that allows you to make something quite interesting out the change of the season.
