Historic Preservation Garden Tour 2026

This past Sunday I spend a delightful afternoon in one of fort Worth's most beautiful districts painting a location that was featured on their Historic garden Tour.  It was a newly renovated home, with a garden of green and white.  A contemporary home with traditional touches like pillars and wrought iron work.  The weather was wonderful despite the threat of rain all afternoon,

PLEIN AIR SOUTHWEST GALVESTON 2026

This past week was the 2-26 Plein Air Southwest Galveston paintout. If is a fundraising event for Historic Preservation Foundation that maintains some of this islands awesome historic buildings.  There were 40 artist participating and ts final art show is her at the beautiful Ashton Villa.  Everyone that comes to theIsland is greeted by the Pleasure Pier where there are restaurants and various rides on a pier that stretches a quarter mile into the ocean.  At the entrance to the Pier is the above Carousel.  It is a beautiful site with mirrors, lights and seats that swing out over the ocean.  I throughly enjoyed painting this item.

The next mourning of the paint-out started with a five am wake up call in order to arrive at the East Beach before the sun was up.  Sun rise happens rather quickly with every few seconds putting of a new display.  The East Beach is at the upper end of the island which lies diagonally north east to south west.  It is one of my favorite places to paint.  The cruise ships and tankers can be seen off shoe coming around theilad to the port.

Just lest than an hour the same scene, the East Beach, it is entirely different.  Clouds have moved in the I put away the yellows sand oranges, The colors now were pearly blues and lavenders.  I love th way the ocean sneakes among the rocks curling around them spilling scrolls edges with lace like foam.  Its a wonderful place to paint.

As short trip away is a marina where there are dozens of boats waiting to be repaired and the ocean can be most cruel.  I love to paint old rusty pieces of equipment.  I have seen this item in this yard for several years and just wondered what I could do with it  So this time I decided to try  I think the workers at the yard had as much fun watching me paint the old thing as I did.

In the evening I drove to another favorite place the West Beach.  This is where the sun goes down.  Unlike the sunrise the setting sun takes longes and really drags it out before slipping down the edge of the earth.  /This particular time I just kept painting all the time I was waiting and really pretty much had it done as it set - not as spectacular as other times due to the clouds.
The next day was foggy and possible rain was forecast.  This field was once full of cattle no doubt but the ocean claims what ever it wants and these gates and fences belong to the God neptune now.  The reeds and occasional birds beautiful and I enjoyed trying to capture the distance as be became lost in the atmosphere.
The West Beach area  cane a favorite place to paint last year when we stayed in a condo in this area.  It is not full of tourist s and noises and bustling like the rest of the island.  Folks live here and raise cattle and horses.  The foliage was especially lush and the yellow wildflowers covered the ground.  This area has trees and palm trees that butt up to the open marshes.
Along the road  of the yellow field there ere hedgerows of palm trees.  They are not manicured and trimmed like the ones in town and I find them much more interesting with their fond swinging in the trees and garden at the bottom.  You can see the yellow fiend through the vegetation at the bottom.
